Pressure Release (Relief) Valves

A Pressure Release /Relief Valve (PRV) is a safety device used to control and maintain constant pressure within a system. It works by opening when the pressure within the system reaches a pre-set limit, and then closing when the pressure falls below that limit. The purpose of a PRV is to prevent over-pressurization of the system, which can cause damage to equipment or even catastrophic failure.

PRVs are typically actuated by line pressure through a pilot control system. This means that the valve is not directly operated by a person, but rather by the pressure within the system. When the pressure reaches a pre-set limit, the valve will open quickly to maintain a steady pressure within the system. However, it will also close gradually to prevent surges, which can also cause damage to equipment.
